When you are going out with someone (or in a relationship with him/her), how much weight do you put on their supposed compatibility chances with your own sign? For example: if I really liked an Aries man, and I am a Cancer female, I probably would still go out with him, but I know Aries and Cancer are not the most compatible combination. Also I would expect certain problems to arise, no matter how attracted we initially are to each other. I would just be curious to know, how much others consider the compatibilty factor - or not.

`I don't know if its because I read what I (Sagittarius) am supposed to be most compatible with (Aries, Leo, and Aries), but when I know that someone I'm talking with (whether it be as a friend, or as an interest) is one of my matches, I feel more comfortable with being my goofy, random self. I have read different personalities of the zodiac, and they really do seem to match up with people's personalities. One of the first, and usually very seemingly random, questions I ask a person is, "when's your birthday?" lol

`Sun sign compatibility does seem to be important, but there are other things to consider. In order to know how compatible you really are with someone you would have to have your natal chart and your partner's done, then compare the two. But the example you gave - Aries Sun and Cancer Sun probably would have problems because these two signs are very different.

A person's Sun sign shows general character, but also shows a person will - will to do anything at all that is. And each Sun sign needs to have the things associated with that sign in order to feel vital and alive. For example a Cancer person needs compassion and love. If you don't show them you care with things like hugs and thoughtful acts, they're likely to feel drained or unhappy, no matter what else they love about the relationship. Aries on the other hand needs adventure, challenges, physical activity and a decent amount of independence. If you keep them indoors too long, or don't let them do their own thing at least some of the time, they too will feel drained by the relationship. But, like I said, it also depends on the rest of the natal chart. So if the Aries person also has a Cancer Moon, that would change things.

Anyway, personally I've never ended a relationship or chosen not to enter one because the guy's Sun sign was not compatible with mine. I do, however, check out the whole chart to see what the potentials of our relationship are.

`the world of others is certainly more interesting with astrology.
however, i think it would be a dull world if we totally believed in it!
hopefully, a little salt doesn't hurt anyone ever.

`It's not just how the sun sign mixes with anothers sun sign, but with how a sun sign mixes with all parts of another person's chart and visa-versa.

`I agree with almost everyones post. I believe that if your emotionally connected to someone than go for it altho it is quite interesting to compare. Even if your sun signs dont coexist well, it doesnt mean your a bad match-up. For instance, I am a pisces and my ex was a Leo, Complete opposition, Fixed fire and mutable water. Seems like a bad mix-up but we had my longest relationship lasting 5 years. The more I researched into astrology the more I learned of ways we worked well. We both have the ascendant of Scorpio (fixed water). This I believe is where our greatest strength was. After that instance I've decided I will never judge on there Sun, nor there entire or chart...except in the case that I meet the perfect astrological match for me. Which would be absolutely awesome!!

`I guess the whole chart thing helps me find out a bit more about them and how they act/react in some situations. It can warn about what to watch out for, but I don't let it dictate who I go out with or befriend because all the various combinations aren't always known anyway...

FYI any relationship worth my time will take work to keep, so I'm only worried about the people who aren't willing to try and make things work, no matter what sign they are...

`the sun sign is just a small part of the whole make up of the person, the sun sign is your basic character and individual sense of identity, but then you have to add which sign the sun is in and go to its planetary ruler and that adds more color to the person , modifies him more, then you have to figure the aspects to the sun sign and also lets not forget your ascendant which is the mask you put on for others to view you or in other words how you want others to see you, and its your personality, then you add your emotions which is the moon and the sign its in so you see the sun sign gets pushed around and modified alot before the chart is done, everything doesnt stand on the sun sign alone.

As an astrologer I've come to realize that not looking at Natal Chart compatability is a big mistake. One I made over and over by falling-in-love, shared interests, and physical attraction.
Which is why I'm on this Astrology Passions site!
So I intend to ask any potential lady friend for her 3 vitals = birth date, exact time, and place of birth. One thing I know already, is that she will have Aries strongly placed in her chart. Not necessarily her Sun in Aries, it could be her Moon, Mars, Venus or Rising sign
If she doesn't know astrology well - I'll give her my vitals 08/03/51, 9:55pm, @ Haverhill,MA - and suggest she try "Astrolabe Free Chart" to get a minireading on me! There's a lot to Astrology - it's not about generalized online Sun Sign readings.

`I've learned from my experiences that it's important to have matches, but if you don't have matches, you got to commit to and work to make those relationships work, or they are doomed to fail. In my case I'm a Taurus(fixed earth), my soon to be ex wife is a Libra(cardinal air), at first, things were fine, except when I put my foot in my mouth, I apologize, she calmed down. But later, she had no interest in trying to make it work, while I did, and in the end, I was forced to leave(long story, and I don't want to talk about it). Right now I am looking for water or earth signs, I also have been told a Pisces would be just right for me. But at the same time, I am also stating that I would still go with a fire or air sign, but we would have to work really hard to make things work, since I want this relationship to last as long as possible, not end up in heartbreak like my last one. So in closing, it really does not matter, but opposite do attract, but you got to work to keep it going. Same could be said for signs that would work, but keep the love going.
